History of the California Voter Empowerment Circle

The California Voter Empowerment Circle (CalVEC) was originally convened to discuss and inform the implementation of the Help America Vote Act (HAVA).  Since its inception, we have grown to a large coalition of regularly active organizations across the state.  The current coalition includes government reform organizations, civil rights organizations, organizations representing people of color and people with disabilities, political parties, and organizations representing low-income people and immigrants. By bringing together leading organizations to advocate and educate on key policies around elections and voting in California, we form a strong voice that the Secretary of State, legislators and other decision-makers have to respond to.
